What's inside

The whole story of one piece of land

  • The story. Chapters on the land and the towns and rivers around it, from the earliest record to today, written as a story and footnoted to its sources.
  • The land file. The original land grant papers from the Texas General Land Office, typeset on old paper and translated if in Spanish, each linked to its original.
  • Maps and photographs. The government's old maps and aerial photographs of the land across the decades, and a map drawn just for this land.
  • The timeline. The land's years at a glance, on a page of its own, made to frame.
  • Your names. On the title page, in the last chapter and on the timeline's final line.

Questions

Good to know

What do you need from me?

Only the address. We find the land in the county's own records. If the land has no street address yet, the county property ID (from the appraisal district) finds it instead.

Can it be for someone else's home?

Yes: your parents' house, the family farm, or the home you grew up in, anywhere in Texas. It comes to your email, not theirs, so it can be a surprise.

Will it come in time for Christmas?

Yes, if you order by December 18: each chronicle arrives within three business days. Print the gift page, wrap it, and the code inside opens the whole history.

Is it only for Texas?

Yes, for now. Each chronicle is built from Texas's own records, from the General Land Office's original land grants to the county appraisal district.

What if nothing famous happened on the land?

Every piece of Texas land has a recorded beginning: the grant that first made it someone's, and the town that grew up around it. Some stories are richer than others, and each chronicle tells its own land's true story.

How does it arrive?

By email, within three business days of your order: one link to a page with everything for each home. That's the chronicle's own page, the printed edition as a PDF, and a gift page to print.

Can our names be in it?

Yes. Write the names you'd like next to the address, and they'll appear on the title page, in the last chapter and on the timeline, exactly as you write them.

Can I print and frame it?

Yes. The printed edition is letter size and made for printing. The timeline and each land grant document have a page of their own, made to frame.

Is my chronicle private?

Yes. It lives at a private link that isn't listed anywhere on our site, and it's kept out of search engines, so it's seen by whoever you share it with. It stays up until you ask us to take it down.

Give a home its story.
